Rhine Romanticism

Feel the magic of the Rhine Romanticism and go in search of clues

Rhine Romanticism - that is an evening stroll over the vineyards of Rüdesheim, a picnic with wine in the peaceful Rhine gardens or a cosy evening in a Straußwirtschaft.
But also: hiking on the Rüdesheim Rhine Romanticism Route or through the Niederwald Landscape Park, walking in the footsteps of Hildegard von Bingen, tours to the romantic castle of Rheinstein Castle, excursions to Eltville Castle or the pottery village of Aulhausen.

From the end of the 18th century to the late 19th century, Rhine Romanticism is considered a formative period in history. The focus of the artistic works and the associated attitude to life was the enchanting landscape of the Middle Rhine with its many castles, palaces and romantic wine villages. In combination with the legendary history of the Rhine Valley, the culturally unique epoch of Romanticism found expression in all genres of art. The foundations of Rhine Romanticism can still be felt and are still alive today.
